I was Obsessed

Obsessed. That’s the word I’d use to describe the beginning of my fitness journey. I set ridiculous rules for myself like:
🔸never missing a workout no matter how little sleep I’d had, or how sick I was
🔸I refused to eat out for 3 months and would, “participate” by having tea while everyone else ate.
🔸I restricted foods I deemed “treats”
🔸I did way too much cardio which I hated. And while there isn’t anything wrong with cardio, using it as a means to earn a meal isn’t healthy. I remember the first Thanksgiving after I’d started, I biked for just over 2 hours so I could enjoy my turkey meal “guilt-free”.

And sure, I did lose fat during this phase, my mentality was unsustainable and it did nothing to help me heal my relationship with food or develop a love of exercise and movement.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀
This is why I always push for balance and sustainability. Just because you can get great results doing something, doesn’t mean you should. Life is too short to miss out on building memories over food with friends/family and punishing your body with exercise.

Has your approach changed since you started your fitness journey?
