Sugar vs. Sugar (Ice Tea vs. Coke)

What do you guys think about this? I went to Starbucks the other week because it was hot and I had no ice, or tea. Fail. I attempted to order my usual, “Venti Passion iced tea, unsweetened, ez ice”. But, alas, Starbucks has joined the list of establishments that has removed the one things I order from the menu. I settled for a Mango Black Tea without lemonade because of the added sugar, but it was still sweet AF. Little did I realize the mango flavor comes from syrup. Oops! Thanks to my hubby for always drinking my eff ups.

Basically, any SB drink with “lemonade” or “refresher” in the name has added sugar (unless you modify it). I didn’t realize this also applied to any drink with the word “shaken”, and even some drinks like my mango iced tea that don’t feature either of those words.

I go to Starbucks maybe 5x a year so i’m always in the dark about these changes. But they are fantastic about accommodating your drink orders. So, definitely don’t be afraid to ask or look up the nutritional value of your favourite drinks online.

As things heat up it’s important to make informed decisions about liquid calories. I choose unsweetened/syrup free drinks like iced tea.

Starbucks drinks with 100 calories or less.

Most of the calories in these drinks though are from sugar/carbs.
