The Dirty Dozen

ORGANIC?! To buy or not to buy organic? In all honesty organic produce isn’t an area I consistently spend money on. It means I leave a bigger part of my paycheck at the store and usually go home with a small fruit or veggie ?. BUT I was recently reading the EWG`s (environmental working group) report, on the “Dirty Dozen”. This list changes every year and includes the top 12 produce items with the highest loads of pesticide residue. This year it includes pears, peaches, nectarines, spinach, tomatoes, cherries, grapes, bell peppers, apples potatoes, celery and strawberries!!!! Why should you care? Different pesticides have been linked to a variety of health problems, including:
.
1.brain and nervous system toxicity

2. cancer

3. hormone disruption

4. skin, eye and lung irritation
.
“Pesticides are toxic by design. They are created expressly to kill living organisms — insects, plants and fungi that are considered “pests.” Many pesticides pose health dangers to people. These risks have been confirmed by independent scientists and physicians across the world.” While there can be a lot of controversy around “organic” and what constitutes it and etc., i’ll likely be keeping this info in mind when I choose which produce to eat or and which ones to splurge on.
